What the Scoogle?
Scoogle is a small family run business; Josie, Colin, Florence and Ruby bring a unique combination of specialised eyewear experience and design expertise.
Josie has more than 11 years experience as an Optician dealing with unique eyewear and special script requests. She is recognised as the person responsible for putting more Anne et Valentine frames on Australian faces than in France. And her appreciation for fine designs extends to Theo. The quirky feel good eyewear from Belgium has a stronger foot-hold in Australian thanks to her 11+ years of fastidious facial frame fitting. The ties are so strong with suppliers that the industry famous and revered JF Rey had their 2011 party at Scoogle, followed by a night of 'row-boating', belly dancing, karaoke and possibly a call from the 'boys in blue'.
Colin brings a unique material science and design aesthetic that in 2011's Silmo saved Scoogle from red faces by turning down exclusive distribution rights for a very Retro Northern American 'eh' range of glasses. And he stands firm against 'COOL' wooden glasses, yes they're cool, but he hasn't found a pair todate that are reliable enough for seasons of harsh Australian climates. His magnificent skills are draped behind a veil of unassuming vacantnessness (it's a word). Always the first to open a bubbling bottled brew, if you're haphazardly walking in at 5 to 5 - prepare to skol.
For Scoogle a new pair of specs is much more than a medical necessity, it's a statement of style and an extension of your personality. Scoogle like to take the time to know their clientele so they can give the best possible advice and the perfect new frame. Scoogle wearers are generally greatly admired and not easily influenced by a herd movement.
Scoogle stock is sourced from Northern Europe. The collections are updated with every new release and Scoogle attend the annual overseas trade shows to ensure they have the latest and the best for you. (Yes it’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it!) Scoogle buy with their clientele in mind to ensure patrons exclusivity.
The unique nature of artful eyewear and Scoogle's passion for this sort of hand crafted design has dictated their shop as well. The interior was designed as a gallery space and constructed with help of some local artisans. After many hours of paint stripping, re-painting, drilling and bolting they have a shop that Mr JF Rey himself hails as the 'BEST IN THE WORLD'. Like the eyewear that goes in it, the shop is an extension of their personality, unique and quirky, welcoming and gorgeous; with the only copper eyewear tree in the world! ** (NB Actual tree does not grow eyewear, see the Spaghetti Tree c1957 BBC)
